The Healthcare Crisis

What Is the Health Care Crisis in the United States

  • Healthcare is extremely critical to Americans as it provides immediate care, bill coverage and improves quality of life. However, healthcare serves as a great concern for many Americans. As medical bills skyrocket due to the increase of inflation; the value for healthcare insurance has gone up.

  • This has caused a crisis for many Americans to pay off medical bills. Americans are now forced to choose between facing bankruptcy or ultimately trying to neglect health care altogether since they cant afford. This is extremely dangerous as this can lead to great debt or not receiving the proper medical care and check ups a person needs leading to an increase of undiagnosed and untreated medical conditions.

Why is Healthcare so expensive in the United States?

  • Drug use is proven to be one of the leading factors to healthcare; Americans pay almost double the price for prescription drugs due to a lack of government regulation. As well as not being able to negotiate drug prices to manufactures compared to private insurers.

  • Medical salary for health professionals is also counted as the leading reason. Since the United States pay healthcare workers much higher compared to any other country, insurance must be more expensive to cover more of the salary.

  • The US is also known to order a lot of unnecessary screenings and tests to patients to prevent any lawsuits. This can be extremely costly and raise the price of insurance significantly

  • Lastly, health care inflation plays a huge role in the higher expense of health care insurance in the US. Specifically after covid 19,many  people making up their visits that were missed to the doctors while the hospital had to spend money on alot more equipment for patients sick during covid, had lead to an imbalance in money spending leading to an increase in healthcare insurance.

Health Care Statistics in the United States

  • Studies have shown that since 2008; the average cost of a family health insurance premium has risen 75%  compared to a 42%  in average hourly wages. This reveals that there is a huge imbalance between the increase cost of healthcare and the increase of paying jobs, making affordibality extremely difficult.

  • According to the Statista Research Department, about 304 million people in the United States use healthcare insurance. However, the cost of healthcare insurance alone is more than what most can afford. With the average annual healthcare insurance to be about $8,435 for a single person alone, and about 23,968 for a family; many Americans are forced to be in debt to afford health care.

  • According to a KFF analysis, over 23 million Americans are in debt of medical bills , and according Public.Citizen about 650,000 people are faced with bankruptcy due to medical bills. The KFF states that in 2021, about 64% of uninsured adults stated that it was because they could not afford healthcare insurance.

Why is Healthcare Insurance so important

Although medical insurance is extremely expensive in the US, without them, citizens are actually forced to pay 4 times the price of a medical bill verse someone with insurance. With this, living without healthcare insurance serves as a great risk as studies show that those who are uninsured are less times likely to receive the proper medical care needed leading to a great increase of the individuals health.  So, what do you do if you cant afford healthcare insurance in the first place?
